At Least I Still Have You
Super Junior (M), PG, gen, 2285 words
Reactions to and interactions of SJM.

01. the next generation (or, shihan is the new kangteuk)
“Aww, our babies are all grown up now and having their own bands,” Leeteuk said happily as he got off the phone with Hankyung.

“I don’t know if you can call Hankyung one of our ‘babies’. He’s older than me, you know,” Kangin laughed. He reached out and wrapped his arms around Leeteuk’s hips, pulling the older man down onto the couch with him.

Leeteuk curled up against his chest, shifting slightly against Kangin into a more comfortable position. “Still. He’s the leader now, playing mommy to all our babies. Donghae, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun… And he has babies of his own now. Henry and Zhou Mi.” Leeteuk sighed and pouted a little. “I miss our babies.”

“So if Hankyung’s mommy, who’s daddy?” Kangin asked, stroking Leeteuk’s hair absentmindedly. Leeteuk closed his eyes and hummed contentedly.

“Siwon, of course.”

Kangin laughed, shoulders shaking. “Our horse, Siwon. Do you think he knows he’s now married with kids? He’s always said he wanted to be a father.”

“I’m sure Hankyung will let him know eventually.”

“So,” Kangin said thoughtfully a moment later, “if Siwon and Hankyung are the new parents, and they’re our babies…does this mean we’re grandparents?”

Leeteuk made a horrified noise.

Kangin burst into laughter again, loud and raucous. “Oh Teukie, you’re so old.” He slapped Leeteuk lightly on his hip, laughing harder at the appalled expression on Leeteuk’s face. “It’s okay, ahjusshi,” he leered, “I still think you’re sexy. I’ll make sure to take special care of your fragile old bones.”

“Oh my god, I hate you,” Leeteuk whined, hitting him and burying his face in the couch

See umma!Teuk hard at work at being a good mommy.

02. culture shock
“So explain this one to me,” said Justin, except it came out so explain this one 2 me -_-.

Henry rolled his eyes and typed back, Look, it’s just the culture, okay? It’s way different from the West. He really didn’t get what was so hard to understand.

“So all that touching and stuff?” Justin questioned, adding another -_- to demonstrate his skepticism.

Dude, it doesn’t mean anything, Henry told him in exasperation. It’s just how they treat the guys. I’m the youngest in the group and so they all think I’m really young and cute or whatever. U know, like u treat kids.

WTF but ur 18!!1

Yeah, well. Henry shrugged and typed, that’s young compared to everyone else, u know. It’s all relative here.

And, truthfully, Henry couldn’t say he really minded being babied. It was a nice change from the vicious screams of the fans a few months ago; it was nice to feel wanted, included, and doted on. He didn’t mind that the guys were always hugging him or squeezing his shoulder affectionately, that they were always bragging about him and being impressed with his English. It made the awkwardness of having to relearn a native tongue he’d never known slightly easier, with the constant smiles and encouragements.

“Well, at least you get to be on TV,” was Justin’s concluding, doubtful remark. “Though some of those outfits…”

“Yeah, okay, I don’t choose those.” Henry had to give that one to his friend: the outfits were kind of…yeah. But he attributed that to show business, because no one famous in Asia wore anything remotely normal, at least not on stage.

So ur really not gay?! Justin wanted to know. goin 2 asia didn't make u gay, rite?

Henry thought about the way Ryeowook hugged him so enthusiastically recently, the way Han Geng wrapped an easy arm around his shoulder, in an almost brotherly fashion. He thought about the way Zhou Mi smiled at him and then thought back even further to the way Sungmin had talked to him, listened to him, held his hand and encouraged him every step of the long, painful way.

Shut up, idiot, Henry said and let Justin take that any way he wanted.

Because as I've told anyone who will listen, I think it's super cute how much Henry's adapted into the Asian culture of skinship and being babied by everyone in SJM. But he was so hardcore and badass before, lol, how does he explain this to his friends back home?

03. sandwich
“Ryeowook’s pimpin’, you guys,” Donghae reported in his Thursday night phone call. He snickered as Eunhyuk sputtered a disbelieving sound and Shindong demanded an explanation.

“He’s got the new members wrapped around his fingers,” Donghae said. “They’re always together and hanging off each other. Like, seriously, I think he and Zhou Mi are attached at the hip.” He sounded deadly serious when he added, “Sorry, Yesung-hyung, I think you’ve been replaced.”

“…what,” said Yesung flatly.

Donghae burst out laughing. “No, no, but they’re really close. And Henry kind of adores them both. He follows them around like a puppy. They do everything together. It’s really sweet, Zhou Mi’s teaching them Chinese and they’re singing together. They always have something to talk about. I think Wookie really likes having someone to baby. And he’s getting really good at Chinese,” Donghae pouted. “I need to improve more.”

“I’m sure you’re doing really well, Donghae,” Sungmin said reassuringly. “You’re getting so much practice. But doesn’t Ryeowook have Kyuhyun to baby?”

“…have you tried to baby Kyuhyun lately?” Kangin asked from the back, snorting. “He’s more mature than the rest of us put together, that smartass.”

Donghae laughed again, his voice echoing out the speakers and bouncing around the walls of the dorm. He sounded a little wicked when he said, “Aww, no, don’t worry about Kyuhyunnie. He’s got me.”

Yesung looked at Sungmin and raised an eyebrow. “Min, I think you’ve been replaced.”

Sungmin glanced from the phone to Yesung to Eunhyuk. He smirked a little and wrapped an arm around Eunhyuk’s middle. “No, it’s Hyukjae.”

“What? What?” said Eunhyuk, looking confused.

Did you see the crazy amount of touching between ZM RW and Henry in the Sohu Starchat? Holy shit.

04. it's just some little thing
Kyuhyun had more or less admitted to the world that he’d had a crush on Donghae when he’d first joined Super Junior. He had certainly come to terms with the fact to himself. But he thought he’d moved past it, after a year and half of working together and learning how to function (if somewhat dysfunctionally) in a thirteen-member idol group. Kyuhyun hadn’t really expected for the crush return full force with the inception of Super Junior M.

It was all the time spent together, preparing and practicing and performing. It was the easy smiles and laughter, the ghost of a breath against his ear as Donghae leaned in to whisper some Chinese phrase into his ear. It was the way Donghae looked at him, the way Donghae was both confident and flirtatious with his Chinese, the way Donghae’s mouth moved when he rapped, forming foreign sounds that slid off his tongue and over Kyuhyun’s nerves.

“Er,” said Kyuhyun during an interview on some show, trying to process the influx of rapid Chinese.

Shen ti jian kang,” Donghae whispered right up against Kyuhyun’s ear, sudden and warm.

Kyuhyun’s heart rate doubled. He tried to catch his breath and remember what the question was. “Um,” he murmured, hyperaware of Donghae’s mouth millimeters from his ear.

Donghae drew back as the hosts said something, but then he leaned forward again, this time brushing his lips against the shell of Kyuhyun’s ear. “Shen ti jian kang,” he repeated, voice low, “I’m healthy.”

Kyuhyun thought, slightly panicked, Is it healthy to want to kiss you right now?

They played it off to screaming fangirls and Hankyung’s laughter from beside them. Kyuhyun even attempted faking a kiss, only to have Donghae pull away with an embarrassed smile and wave of his hand. But Kyuhyun, still too warm under the collar, saw the way Donghae glanced at him from the corner of his eye, the way his mouth tilted into a teasing, flirtatious smile.

Kyuhyun’s mind spun with the possibilities of what could happen in China.

Once again, Sohu Starchat towards the end of this clip (~7:55). Delicious~

05. best men
“Junsu abandoned me for Japan and now Donghae’s in China.” Eunhyuk sighed heavily and flopped onto Sungmin’s bed. “I don’t want to sound like I’m whining, you know? I’m really happy for both of them. I know they’re both doing really well and I want that for them. It’s just…”

“You miss them.” Sungmin sat on the edge of the bed and petted Eunhyuk’s head comfortingly. “I know, Hyuk. It’s okay.”

Eunhyuk buried his face in the pillow and wriggled unhappily on the bed. “I feel so petty,” he said, words muffled. “But they’re both so far away.”

“It’s okay,” Sungmin repeated, hand leaving Eunhyuk’s hair to run soothingly along his back.

“I just… I miss my best friends.”

Silently, Sungmin swung his legs onto the bed and scooted across the space to lie down beside Eunhyuk. He wrapped his arms around the younger member, pulling him close.

“I’m really proud of them,” Eunhyuk said softly, turning his face slightly so he could face Sungmin. “I really think they’re both doing amazing jobs and I want them both to be successful. They deserve it. I want everyone to support them, you know? I just.” He looked conflicted. “I just miss them,” he admitted, ducking his head into Sungmin’s neck.

Sungmin squeezed him and held him tight. “I know, Hyukkie,” he said. “I know.”

Eunhyuk sniffled quietly for a moment, and then his arms came up around Sungmin. He hugged him back. “I’m glad you’re here, hyung. I don’t know what I would do if all my best friends were gone.”

Sungmin only smiled and kissed the top of his head.

Poor Hyukjae. But HyukMin bff-ery is fabulous, y/y?

06. things i won't say
“You better text me every day,” Heechul told Hankyung before he left for China. “And call at least five times a week, even if it’s just for five minutes.”

“Heechul,” Hankyung said in exasperation. “It’s not going to be that easy. We’re going to be really busy, you know. We already have seventeen-hour days in our schedule.”

Heechul only glared, unsympathetic. “Do it,” he insisted, “or you’re not my friend anymore.”

Hankyung rolled his eyes, used to Heechul’s theatrics. “Okay, okay,” he finally gave in. He shook his head and squeezed Heechul’s arm. “You’re so demanding, you know that? I wouldn’t do this for anyone else.”

“It’s because you love me best,” Heechul said grandly, following Hankyung into his bedroom.

“No, it’s because no one else would ask something that unreasonable from me,” Hankyung corrected.

“Shut up, it’s not unreasonable. How else will I know you’re still alive? I think I deserve to know, as your friend, that China hasn’t killed you.”

Hankyung only laughed and threw another shirt into the open suitcase on his floor. Heechul perched himself on Hankyung’s bed and watched him, his eyes bright under his unkempt bangs. His fingers curled into the bed covers.

“You’re going to be gone for a long time,” Heechul commented. His voice was light and airy, but Hankyung knew better.

“I know.”

“You better do a good job promoting Super Junior in China.”

“I will.”

“You better not forget all the Korean you learned.”

“I won’t.”

“Don’t let Siwon get too cocky about his Chinese. You know how he is, thinking he’s so smart like—hey.” Heechul adopted an offended expression as Hankyung pulled him off the bed and into a hug. “What are you doing, you ass?”

Hankyung only hugged him closer. “I’m going to miss you too,” he said quietly. “But I’ll text you every day, okay? And I’ll call, too.”

Heechul was suddenly, suspiciously quiet. “Aissh,” he said, and his voice sounded a little funny, as if he were holding back tears. “Hannie.” He slipped his arms around Hankyung and held on a little tighter than normal. “You’ll do great. You’re going to be a fantastic leader and you’ll make all the Chinese fans crazy for you. And then you’ll come back and all the Korean fans will go crazy over you again because they’ve missed you so much.”

Hankyung laughed a little. “Keep me updated on everyone here, okay?”

“Okay,” said Heechul and laid his head on Hankyung’s shoulder. “But I’m only going to do it in Korean so you better not get rusty. I won’t accept excuses.” Hankyung nodded and didn’t say anything about the dampness seeping through his shirt.

I LOVE HEECHUL, OKAY? He would totally miss Hankyung like crazy but he's so proud of this boy, he would want him to succeed so much.

07. 幸福 (happiness)
“I’m so proud of you, hyung,” Siwon said, beaming.

Hankyung clutched at Siwon’s hand, the smile brilliant and blinding on his face. Siwon had seen more of that smile in the past week than he had in months. He squeezed Hankyung’s hand and tilted his head as Hankyung said, “I’m so happy. We’re getting such a good reception here. It’s more than I ever dreamed.”

He was glowing as he turned to Siwon and pulled him into a loose hug. “Thanks,” he said when he drew back. “Xie xie,” he repeated in Chinese. “For everything. For helping make this happen.”

Siwon had always been taught to count his blessings and he had plenty of them in regards to Super Junior M. He was genuinely glad to have both Henry and Zhou Mi in the group, happy that both of them were getting the recognition they deserved for their hard work and talent. He was grateful for the further opportunity to not only improve his Chinese but to also promote Super Junior at the same time. He was happy to have Donghae, Kyuhyun, and Ryeowook with him. He was touched at the warm reception they’d received from the Chinese entertainment industry and fans, despite some earlier trouble with boycotts or whatnot. Siwon was truly, sincerely thankful for everything offered to him by his career, built by the love of his bandmates and supported by love of the fans.

But nothing made this China subgroup venture worth it more than Hankyung’s smile and tears, the beauty of his fluent tongue and the happiness that emanated from him whenever he looked around at his band mates—his band, his dongsaengs, his members.

“I just want you to be happy,” Siwon told Hankyung in Chinese, smiling. You deserve to have all your dreams come true.

I don't know how anyone can not support Sujuman when it's so obvious how happy it makes Hankyung. Oh baby, I'm so proud of you, so pleased for you. Also, will have to mentally adjust to calling you Han Geng at some point.
