Demon’s Folly
403 words
I don’t think I ever expected Eclipse to accept my offer, at least not seriously. There was always that wistful hope though—he was quite pretty and I’d entertained a few fantasies of long black hair strewn over my sheets, stark against white silk, and dark eyes burning bright.
But it really wasn’t Eclipse I wanted, I realized. The whole scenario in my nightmare forest helped clear that up. It was Raenef I missed.
Regardless, I was quite impressed with Eclipse’s fierce loyalty to the new Lord Raenef, blue-eyed, golden-haired, and impossibly naive and gullible. Did this kind of demon lord deserve Eclipse’s trust and fidelity?
Still, even I had to admit that even if he wasn’t able to win people over by force, Raenef could probably win the world over with sheer cuteness.
He’d made an impressive start with Eclipse.
It still surprised me sometimes how quickly one of the most esteemed and feared demons of the realm could have fallen so quickly for his near-incompetent master. Mostly, however, it amused me. Who knew Eclispe even had a sense of humor, much less patient compassion, a heart of gold, and an affinity for cute, fluffy animals?
I snickered. Well, the little blonde demon lord was a damned pretty cute, fluffy animal. If that made a difference. He had turned out to be a lot more powerful than one would assume upon first glance, though, hadn’t he? Who could’ve guessed the child had such hidden depths?
Honestly, they were quite a sight; entertaining as I found few other things.
It was too bad it wouldn’t last.
After all, I mused sadly, look at Raenef and me. If we hadn’t managed to make it, how could they? What with a young demon lord who was, if not completely inept, still widely inexperienced, and a jaded demon servant, whose inner conflict between love and duty could only escalate as time passed. They were beautiful to look at, entertaining to watch, but painful to contemplate.
Time was a bitter mistress, and love, a fickle wife.
But I kept my doubts to myself in the face of those wide, artless green eyes, warmed with sunlit laughter and that small smile, a subtle curve of lips that I had never expected to be graced to see.
He was foolish, Eclipse was.
But he was in love as well. And I supposed fools in love deserved a little leniency.

Disclaimer: I still want it. I still don’t have it. ;__;
Notes: Yes, the narrator was Krayon. No, I couldn’t help myself; the KAR4 not-so-subtle references just had to be made. ^_^.v. Ah, well. You can pretend it’s in the same universe as Gardenia Song if so pleases you.
