Kyoudai.
They are siblings. Brothers, to be more specific. Twins, to be more specific still.
Only minutes apart, Suboshi followed Amiboshi into the world, crying, wailing, and announcing their arrival together. Bu Shunkaku and Bu Kotouku, respectively.
Their days were spent together, their childhood joys and horrors passed in each other’s arms. They lost their parents, clinging to each other, and survived to the Kutou palace, facing their blond-haired savior side-by-side.
They are family.
Kagami.
Suboshi traces his twin’s features, fingers feather-light as he grazes them over Amiboshi’s skin. “Aniki,” he whispers, staring into eyes that mirrored his own. The same shade of blue-gray, like the oceans on a cloudy day, and the same thick lashes and the same expressiveness.
They reflect each other, not only in appearance, but in heart and soul. They might have different personalities, Suboshi outgoing and aggressive, Amiboshi quieter and more serene, but they are essentially the same. Determined, persevering, loving, and, above all, loyal.
“Suboshi.” Amiboshi smiles at him and Suboshi finds himself in his brother’s gaze.
A smile is reflected on his own face.
They are each other’s mirrors.
Futago.
No matter what life-shaking events occur most people still don’t seem to understand that when they are separated, catastrophic events will undoubtedly take place. It is not lightly that twins can be separated from each other, and Amiboshi and Suboshi are closer than most.
It is with no small trepidation that Amiboshi leaves Suboshi. And Suboshi can’t hide the pain of being left behind as his aniki goes off to find the Suzaku shichiseishi on Nakago’s orders.
To say that they will miss each other is an unforgivable understatement.
They are not just brothers, not just twins, mirrors of each other; they are each other’s other halves.
Hitori.
“I love you, Suboshi,” Amiboshi says softly, leaning down to kiss his twin.
Suboshi knows. “Don’t go,” he says against Amiboshi’s mouth, hands clenched in his brother’s shirt.
But he does.
Suboshi vows that once his other half returns, he will never let go again.

Disclaimer: I want to own Fushigi Yuugi, trust me, I do. Then Yui would be carted off to a deserted planet and left there to fend for her miserable self and Amiboshi and Suboshi would be together and happy, dammit. Unfortunately, I don’t own FY. Pity.
Note: issho ni – together (with), kyoudai – sibling(s), kagami – mirror, futago – twin, hitori – one (person)
