Pairing: Kei/Kazahaya [Legal Drug]
Theme: Kei finds Kazahaya in a pharmacy

No One Else

She’d always known where she’d find him. It was a sort of hitsuzen, she supposed, looking through the frosted glass of the drugstore. He was inside, behind the counter and arguing with another employee, a boy who was probably no older than him but much taller. She smiled to see his outraged expression, so familiar, and moved to the door that led inside, stepping into the shop with a rush of cold winter air. It’d been a year since he’d arrived in this destined place.

The dispute broke off when the bell tinkled, announcing her arrival, because the two had been trained well to heed the warning of forthcoming customers. She saw him look up, ready smile on his face, pale skin flushed from the heat of the argument. “Welcome to—“ he got out before he finally registered who was standing before him.

She watched his eyes widen, color draining from his face. The other boy cast him a look and glanced at her with suspicion. Protective, she thought, smiling faintly, but she dismissed him easily. There were more important matters at hand, one in a green apron, pale hair longer than she remembered, and taller than her now. “Kazahaya,” she said, her smile curling into one familiar to him, as familiar as willow trees and afternoon sunshine.

Her voice shocked him out of his stupor. “Kei,” he whispered hoarsely, blindly rounding the end of the counter to step hesitantly toward her.

She opened her arms to him, sliding her small hands up to rest on his shoulders, looking up at him. “Did you miss me?” she breathed, voice soft and a touch coy, glancing at him from underneath her lashes. At his confused, stunned nod, she tightened her hold on him and drew him closer. “Did you miss me terribly?”

He held her, suddenly big in contrast to her small, fragile frame, his hands gentle and unsure. “Oneesan,” he said and he sounded so lost, like the little boy she’d known.

Over his shoulder she could see the other boy fisting his hands, dark look on his face. Silly thing, she chuckled silently. To think he could hold on to Kazahaya when the truth was he had always been and always would be hers. Footsteps drew her attention away to where Kakei and another man were stepping out from the back room. Kakei acknowledged her with a smile and dip of his head. She drew back from Kazahaya.

It had only been a matter of time.

She lifted a hand to cup her little brother’s face. “You don’t have to search for me anymore,” she said, looking him in the eye, “I’m here now.”
