Sins of Will

"Azael." Lucifer reached out to grasp Azael's hand as the other angel turned away from him.

"Don't." Azael brushed his hand away. He wouldn't look Lucifer in the eye, long silver hair falling over his face. His voice was small and painfully brittle.

The silence between them was heavy and the space between them stretching from four feet into what seemed longer than eternity. Lucifer's right hand, the one he'd reached out to Azael, was trembling. He pulled it back to his side, slowly, clenching it into a fist. "Shaibel," he breathed out, voice taut and breaking on an almost harsh note. There was an underlying edge of desperation to the word as he stared at the back of his lover, his soul mate.

The line of Azael's back under his shirt was tense, neat braid undone at the edges, imperfect.

Lucifer moved and crossed the distance between them. "Tell me," he whispered in Azael's ear, voice soft but not pleading. He waited, not moving to touch Azael again but not backing away to give Azael the room he looked desperate to have.

With a sobbing breath that made Lucifer's stomach clench and his protective instinct flare up--he would kill whoever made Azael feel like this--Azael turned and stared up at him, golden eyes wavering, expression wretched.

"Lucifer," he said, tearing his gaze away after a moment. "I--" He heaved in a large breath and was silent for two heartbeats. "I--" Another sob caught in his throat and he turned, suddenly, pressing himself into his lover's chest, face against a pale neck. "I was jealous," he told Lucifer, sounding broken and horrified with himself. "When you were talking with that customer up front--she was so friendly and pretty and beautiful and, oh shaibel, what's wrong with me?" Azael was crying openly now, tears streaking his cheeks, rubbing off onto Lucifer's skin.

Lucifer, who relaxed slowly, arms coming up around Azael, stroking the curve of his back. He let his killer instinct ebb as he pressed a kiss to Azael's hair. "Shaibel," he murmured. "Oh Azael."

The woman in question had been not some buxom blonde because Azael would've known better than to think Lucifer could ever fall for someone like that, but a friendly brunette, soft-spoken and sweet, laughing and talking with ease to Lucifer over the counter as he served up her coffee. Lucifer was good with people, found banter easy, and she had been a bright spot in the day compared to the other customers they served typically.

But Azael...

"You had nothing to worry about," Lucifer said softly, slipping the fingers of his left hand under Azael's chin and tilting them up. "I love you, Azael. Shaibel." He murmured the last word against Azael's mouth. "And," he added, his lips still brshing Azael's, "He will forgive your envy. Do not worry." His right hand continued stroking down Azael's back soothingly as he pressed the kiss deeper.

"Do not worry, Azael."

There's no one else but you.
